25th anniversary gig -live broadcast

On Thursday 17 December 2009 at 11.06pm (NZT) Radio New Zealand will be playing some of the songs from the concert we recorded back in June to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Pink Frost. We are also discussing the possibility of releasing this on limited edition vinyl and would love to hear your thoughts on this

You can hear it here: www.radionz.co.nz

Radio NZs announcement:
One of New Zealand?s defining music acts The Chills celebrated the 25th anniversary of the song Pink Frost in June 2009. Radio New Zealand recorded this performance at the Monte Cristo Room in Auckland. A mix of classic and obscure back catalogue and brand new songs, played by a strong Chills line-up centred around Martin Phillipps (naturally), for an adoring crowd. Songs include Night Of Chill Blue, Effloresce & Deliquesce, I Think I'd Thought I'd Nothing Else To Think About and of course Pink Frost.

Love,
The Chills

What fucking bollocks. Relegated to 11pm on a weeknight. I will assume the Chills mustn't be cool enough for that silly hip bitch, and her bourgious-arty side kicks, who do muse-sick 101...wow 101: you have to be a uni student to get IT man...on the brighter side, at least the show will be presided over by Bryan Crump -a top bloke incidentally- and not Kirsten John(pause)stone(the said silly bitch incidentally)... couldn't the programmers have slotted it in around those two dickheads who do matinee idol in the holiday season?...imagine it - kicking back on a hot summer arvo, pohutukawas in bloom, sandflys biting, falafel and mussells frying, pissed listening to the chills blaring out at a beach somewhere... There is always the Nat Radio archive i suppose...tax payers money well i never...middle new zealand should be up in arms...motorcyclists too probably...

It certainly was a magical night, and I'd love a decent/official audio version of the whole gig. But don't forget about the people without turntables. A nicely packaged double CD would also go down a treat.

My thoughts as well regarding a double cd or a nice splash of something new on iTunes. A vinyl release is nice, but isn't it time for the Chills to make a bit of money? Throw it up on iTunes. No production costs and immediate revenue. Will 2010 be the year of a new Chills album?

That was a great show - I'd love to see a CD release of that.

haha what a spaz. I shall eat my words. And, I am exhonerated by them...check it - http://www.radionz.co.nz/national/highlights/music_101_summer_edition but will it be a full hour or that 30 minute job done last night???and a vinyl release; well it sounds nice, but...be the full gig i would expect, double album big boy shit.4 sides etc... not just good music neither, some sublime comedy...not least chris knox having a stroke. Didn't school master phillipps give those naughty kidddies a harsh reprimand just...it might of sounded cool of it was jim morrison or johnny rotten...otherwise it was, well...(Was it really that important?) i remember when he gave a chum of mine a telling off at a bodega gig a few years back...my mate fell into his guitar and knocked a few strings, and got called an arsehole, you drunken arsehole. but actually, he was pushed by some arsehole...i think it was dead end at the end of the streets of forgotten cool.

Re-listening to the concert for Music 101 on Saturday. Just beautiful! We're thrilled to be able to play it. Thanks Martin.

Here's a radical idea for you - how about some new material please? I mean, it's only been SIX YEARS since 'Stand By'! No, let's have a 'limited edition vinyl live album' and a whole load of excuses. That's what the Chills fanbase *really* wants. Pfffffft.

...Peter Tocher, pherron, Purplegirl, thokei and all the rest of them - an entire community destroyed by the people who run this site not just ONCE but TWICE. No wonder everyone gave up. I pop back here every now and again to see if any new material has finally been released, but I'm not holding my breath. Frankly, if the Chills' cover of 'Luck or Loveliness' on the Chris Knox album is anything to go by it might not be worth the wait.
